"IAM certification" sounds like one thing you can buy. It is actually four different markets stacked under one acronym, each with its own vendors, price tags, prerequisites and — the part almost nobody writes about — its own rules on who is even allowed to sit the exam. An IT professional in Pune searching for "identity and access management courses" gets an undifferentiated wall of institute pages, most of which are selling before they are explaining.
Quick answer: IAM certifications in India fall into four families — identity governance (SailPoint IdentityIQ, Saviynt, Omada), privileged access management (CyberArk, BeyondTrust, Delinea), access management and single sign-on (Okta, Microsoft Entra SC-300, Ping), and vendor-neutral security credentials (CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+). Vendor exam fees run from about US$165 for Microsoft SC-300 to US$400–500 for SailPoint professional certifications, with CISSP around ₹62,000–65,000 in India. Institute training is a separate cost, advertised from roughly ₹25,000 to over ₹1,60,000. Most Indian hiring — Big 4 firms, IT services companies and BFSI global capability centres — sits in the identity governance family.
This guide is the map we wish existed when students ask us "which IAM certification should I do?" on a demo call. It covers what each family is for, what everything costs, which exams you can actually book as an individual, what the current India job and salary picture looks like, and where our own SailPoint IIQ training program fits — including the parts of the landscape we do not teach.
What IAM certifications and training options exist in India in 2026?
India's IAM learning market splits into four families: identity governance platforms (SailPoint IdentityIQ, Saviynt, Omada), privileged access management (CyberArk, BeyondTrust, Delinea), access management and SSO (Okta, Microsoft Entra SC-300, Ping), and vendor-neutral security credentials (CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+). Most Indian hiring sits in the first group.
The families are not competing versions of the same thing. They answer different questions inside an enterprise, which is why picking one at random and hoping it opens doors is how people waste a year:
Identity governance (IGA)
Largest India hiring poolAnswers "who should have access, who approved it, and can we prove it to an auditor?" Certification campaigns, joiner-mover-leaver automation, segregation of duties.
- SailPoint IdentityIQ and Identity Security Cloud
- Saviynt, Omada, IBM Verify Governance
- Hires heavily in BFSI, Big 4 and IT services
Privileged access (PAM)
Strong, narrower demandAnswers "how do we control and record what admins do with root and domain-admin credentials?" Vaulting, session recording, credential rotation.
- CyberArk (Defender, Sentry tracks)
- BeyondTrust, Delinea
- Suits infrastructure and security-ops backgrounds
Access management & SSO
Fast-growing, cloud-ledAnswers "how does a user log in once and reach everything safely?" SAML, OIDC, MFA, conditional access, federation.
- Okta certifications; Microsoft SC-300 for Entra ID
- Ping Identity, ForgeRock
- Common in product companies and cloud-native firms
Vendor-neutral security
Senior / management signalAnswers "does this person understand security governance broadly?" Useful for leadership tracks, weak as a first credential for hands-on identity work.
- CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+
- Identity Management Institute credentials (CIAM and similar)
- CISSP requires five years of relevant experience
Separately from all four sits the training layer: institutes that teach the platform so you can do the work. That distinction — training from an institute versus certification from a vendor — is the single most common confusion we see, and we unpack it fully in our guide to SailPoint certification cost in India.
Which IAM certification is best for an IT professional in India?
There is no single best IAM certification in India — the right one depends on the platform your target employers run. For identity governance roles at Big 4 firms, IT services companies and BFSI global capability centres, SailPoint IdentityIQ platform skills carry the most interview weight, with Microsoft SC-300 the best-value entry credential.
The honest way to choose is to work backwards from job descriptions rather than forwards from certification marketing. Open twenty listings for the roles and cities you actually want, and count which platforms appear. In India that exercise usually produces a clear IGA skew, because the demand is compliance-driven: banks, insurers and their global capability centres have to evidence who approved what access, and that is exactly what identity governance tooling exists to do.
| If your background is… | Family that usually fits | Practical first move |
|---|---|---|
| Support, service desk, AD administration | Identity governance (IGA) | Structured SailPoint IdentityIQ training, then evidence from labs |
| Windows / Linux / infrastructure admin | PAM or IGA | CyberArk if your employer runs it; otherwise IGA has the wider India pool |
| Cloud, DevOps, Microsoft 365 admin | Access management | Microsoft SC-300 — cheapest credible entry credential at about US$165 |
| GRC, audit, compliance | Identity governance (IGA) | Access certification and policy modules map directly to what you already do |
| Java or application developer | IGA engineering | IIQ rules and workflows use Java and BeanShell — your skills transfer |
| 8+ years, moving to leadership | Vendor-neutral | CISSP or CISM as a management signal, on top of platform depth |
Two of our existing guides go deeper than this table can: best IAM certifications for IT professionals in India compares the credentials head to head, and IAM vs IGA vs PAM explained defines the categories properly if the acronyms are still blurring together. If you are still deciding whether identity is the right domain at all, IAM vs DevOps vs cloud security scores the paths against each other.
How much do IAM certifications and training cost in India?
IAM vendor exams range from roughly US$165 for Microsoft SC-300 to US$400–500 for SailPoint professional certifications, while CISSP costs about ₹62,000–65,000 in India. Institute training is separate: Indian IAM courses are advertised from about ₹25,000 to over ₹1,60,000 depending on provider and format, checked August 2026.
Keep the two columns mentally separate. The vendor exam fee buys you a credential; the training fee buys you the ability to do the work. Paying one and skipping the other is the most expensive mistake in this market — in both directions.
| Credential or course | Family | Published cost (Aug 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft SC-300 (Identity and Access Administrator) | Access mgmt | ~US$165 exam fee |
| Okta core certification exams | Access mgmt | ~US$250 per exam; ~US$100 retake |
| SailPoint professional certifications (Identity University) | IGA | ~US$400–500 per exam |
| CyberArk Defender | PAM | Exam ~US$200–400; official prerequisite training runs far higher |
| CISM (ISACA) | Vendor-neutral | US$575 members / US$760 non-members |
| CISSP (ISC2) | Vendor-neutral | ~₹62,000–65,000 all-in for Indian candidates |
| Indian institute IAM courses | Training, not certification | ~₹25,000 to ₹1,60,000+ depending on provider |
| SailPoint Academy live IIQ course | Training, not certification | Rs. 25,000 flat, 2 months, 14 modules |
Costs compiled August 2026 from vendor certification pages and public Indian training-provider pricing pages, including SailPoint's Identity University, Okta certification pages, Microsoft Learn, ISACA, ISC2 and Indian institute listings. Vendor exam prices are billed in US dollars and change without notice; institute fees vary by batch and format. Always confirm on the official page before paying. SailPoint Academy is an independent training provider and is not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by SailPoint Technologies, Inc.

Which IAM certifications can you actually take as an individual learner?
Not every IAM certification is open to individuals. Saviynt's IGA certification exams are available only to people working with Saviynt's affiliated partners and customers, and require mandatory Level 100 or 200 training. SailPoint's Identity University, Microsoft SC-300, Okta and vendor-neutral exams remain open to self-funded learners in India.
This is the section that changes people's plans, and it is missing from almost every "top 10 IAM certifications" listicle. A credential you cannot book is not an option, no matter how well it ranks on somebody's list.
Open to individual learners
- Microsoft SC-300 — anyone can register and sit it
- Okta certifications — public exam registration
- SailPoint Identity University — public registration; introductory content free after sign-up
- CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+ — open, though CISSP needs five years of experience to certify fully
Gated or effectively gated
- Saviynt SCIP / SCAIP — restricted to individuals at Saviynt partners and customers
- Saviynt exams also require mandatory Level 100 / 200 training first
- CyberArk paths — exam is bookable, but official prerequisite courses make the realistic all-in cost far higher than the exam fee
- Several enterprise IGA vendors run partner-only enablement with no public track
The practical consequence for a self-funded learner in India is narrower than the marketing suggests. If you are paying out of your own pocket and not currently employed at a vendor partner, your realistic certification routes are Microsoft, Okta, SailPoint and the vendor-neutral bodies. That is one of the structural reasons SailPoint skills are worth learning early in an Indian IAM career: the platform has both the deepest local job market and a certification path you can actually walk into, rather than one that requires an employer to sponsor you in first.
Check the eligibility page before you budget
Vendors change certification access rules more often than they change prices. Before you plan a year around a credential, open the vendor's own certification FAQ and check three things: who is eligible to sit it, whether prerequisite training is mandatory, and how long the credential stays valid before recertification is required.
Is identity and access management a good career in India in 2026?
Identity and access management remains one of India's steadiest IT security hiring segments. Naukri listed 9,419 identity and access management vacancies in India and Glassdoor 6,317 in August 2026, spread across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai and Delhi NCR, driven by audit and compliance obligations rather than discretionary IT spend.
Platform-level demand signals point the same way. Naukri showed 6,781 vacancies mentioning SailPoint and 5,796 mentioning CyberArk in August 2026. Portal counts overlap heavily — one vacancy is often posted on three portals and tagged with both platforms — so read them as demand signals rather than distinct headcount. The direction is what matters: identity work is funded by regulators, not by budget optimism, which is why it holds up better than general IT hiring in a slow year.
| Role level | India (market estimate) | United States | United Kingdom |
|---|---|---|---|
| IAM / Identity Analyst | ₹4–8 LPA | ~$70,000–95,000 | £35,000–45,000 |
| IAM Engineer / IIQ Developer | ₹8–15 LPA | ~$110,000–150,000 | £50,000–60,000 |
| Senior Consultant / Lead | ₹15–26 LPA | ~$150,000–200,000 | £65,000–80,000 |
| IAM / IIQ Architect | ₹28–50 LPA | $200,000+ | £80,000–90,000+ |
Market estimates compiled August 2026 from Naukri, Glassdoor, AmbitionBox, 6figr, PayScale, Salary.com and ITJobsWatch. Indian aggregators disagree sharply on IAM averages — PayScale reports an average around ₹8.6 lakh for IAM engineers while 6figr reports roughly ₹24 lakh — because the samples mix junior operations roles with senior architects. Treat all figures as ranges, not benchmarks. International salary figures are market estimates from public job listings and salary aggregators. Actual compensation varies by employer, location, experience and individual negotiation. These are market estimates, not guarantees — salary depends on prior experience, employer, and interview performance.
Two standalone facts worth citing for readers outside India: in the United States, analysis of job postings across major platforms showed roughly 42,000 open IAM-related positions in early 2026, up from about 31,000 a year earlier. In the United Kingdom, senior identity and access management roles including architects and IAM managers typically advertise between £65,000 and £90,000 per year. Because SailPoint Academy delivers training 100% live online over Zoom, students in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, UAE and Singapore attend the same batches as students in Hyderabad — see our guide to SailPoint jobs in the USA and SailPoint training online in the UK for market-specific detail. What does SailPoint Academy teach — and what does it not?
SailPoint Academy currently teaches one thing: live online SailPoint IdentityIQ (IIQ) training, Rs. 25,000, 2 months, 14 modules, batch capped at 25 students. A SailPoint Identity Security Cloud (ISC) course is launching with a waitlist open. We do not teach Okta, CyberArk, Saviynt or AWS today.
We are stating that plainly in the middle of a guide that maps the whole landscape, because a hub page written by a training institute has an obvious incentive to conclude "and therefore buy our course." The honest version is narrower. If your target employers run Okta or CyberArk, we are the wrong provider for you and you should go elsewhere — the map above should help you find where.
What we teach
SailPoint IdentityIQ, live on Zoom, across all 14 modules: IAM Overview, SailPoint Architecture, Application Onboarding, SailPoint Jobs, Configuration File, Application Rules, Role Management, Policy Management, Risk Score, Groups/Workgroups/Population, Access Certification, Lifecycle Events, Custom Workflow, and Quick Link & Reporting.
What is launching
A live online SailPoint ISC (Identity Security Cloud) course — waitlist open, founding-batch pricing announced to waitlist members first. Join the waitlist on WhatsApp rather than waiting for a launch page.
What we do not teach
Okta, CyberArk, Saviynt, Ping, Microsoft Entra and AWS identity are outside our current catalogue. Future courses are planned; nothing is being sold today that does not exist today.
What certificate you receive
A SailPoint Academy certificate of completion — not an official SailPoint Technologies certification, which only Identity University can issue through proctored exams. We keep those two words apart on purpose.
Sessions are led by a lead trainer with 14+ years of enterprise IAM and SailPoint experience, and the full module-by-module breakdown is on the 14-module IIQ curriculum page. Where those modules lead — analyst, developer, consultant, architect — is mapped on SailPoint IIQ career paths.
How should you sequence IAM training and certification in India?
Sequence it in four steps: learn IAM fundamentals, then build hands-on skill on one platform through structured training, then get real project or lab evidence onto your resume, and only then sit a vendor exam. Vendor certifications validate experience — in India they rarely substitute for it at entry level.
Fundamentals before tools
Identities, entitlements, roles, authoritative sources, provisioning, access certification, joiner-mover-leaver. Two weeks of concept work makes every platform easier and stops you buying a credential for a job you have misunderstood.
One platform, taught live
Pick the platform your target employers actually run and learn it properly rather than sampling three. Live instruction matters here because the hard part is not the button clicks — it is the design judgement about why a rule is written one way and not another.
Evidence, honestly described
Onboard an application, write an aggregation rule, run a certification campaign, configure a leaver event. Then describe that on your resume as lab and course work — precisely, without inflating it into fake project experience. Interviewers test the detail, not the label.
Vendor exam last
SailPoint itself recommends around a year of hands-on experience before its engineer-level exam. Sitting it before you have that experience converts money into a certificate you cannot defend in an interview.
If you want that sequence in more depth, how to learn SailPoint IIQ in 2 months lays out the practical roadmap, is SailPoint certification worth it runs the cost-benefit honestly, and the 7-point check before you pay any IT training institute is the one to run before handing money to anybody — SailPoint Academy included.
